Pompeii Ruins are the “must to do” of your holiday in Sorrento. Pompeii are the most famous and evocative archaelogical site in the world. The eruption of Vesuvius on the august of 79 A.D. buried the city where the rich roman people spend them holydays. Most of the inhabitant died smother and from the buried body had made casts.
Also for this a walk on Pompeii is a journey into the past. You can feeling the real athomspere of roman. The homes, the road and the public places are still like as were in that age.
Around the city you can visit the Forum, the active centre of the city, the Capitolium, a temple dedicated to Zeus and the temple of Apollo.
Walk on the main road: Via dell’Abbondanza you can see the old shops: craftsmen, store, laundries and also the lupanare, a brothel with erotic paint. Woth a visit also “Villa dei Misteri”. There is the famous paint on a red background wich seem to depict a Dionysian initalion ceremony.
Reach Pompei to Sorrento is very easy.
You have just to catch a Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento station and stop at Pompei-Villa dei Misteri.
The trains start every 20 minutes from the 5 a.m at 11.30 p.m.
It takes about 30 minutes and the entrance is just in front on the station.
The full tickets cost 11 euro. The entrance is for free for all European citizen under 18 and over 65.

November - March, every day from 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
(last admission 3.30 p.m.)
April - October, every day from 8.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
(last admission 6 p.m.)
